The Sugar Maple pendant captures the changing beauty of autumn foliage on a more delicate scale. Deeply lobed maple leaves are transformed as the season advances, taking on warm shades of green, gold and copper before they fall. Their recurring cycle of change and renewal gives the sugar maple a deeper connection with resilience, continuity and the enduring rhythms of nature.

Branching brown oxidized bronze stems frame a compact arrangement of smaller textured maple leaves. Green hand patination is complemented by copper leaf and 24k gold plating, allowing the individual leaves to reflect different stages of autumn color. The lighter proportions give this Sugar Maple pendant a refined, understated character, making it easy to wear alone for a subtle botanical accent or layered with other favorite necklaces.

Materials: The Sugar Maple pendant is cast in hand patinated bronze with a brown and green hand patinated finish, accented with a 24kt gold plating and copper leaf.

About our Jewelry

Our unique jewelry is made by creating molds directly from botanical elements in a process similar to lost-wax casting. While traditional lost-wax casting begins with a hand-carved model of wax, Michael Michaud uses an actual leaf, branch or flower in place of the wax model. A mold is created around the botanical element and as it is heated the plant matter burns away and leaves behind a beautifully detailed mold of itself.

Michael Michaud

Artist Michael Michaud attended the Rochester Institute of Technology's prestigious school for American craftsmen, where he studied under designers Hans Christenson and Gary Griffin and became a master in the creation and manipulation of molds. After graduating in 1980, Michael Michaud continued to perfect his craft while working under jewelry designers in the New York City area.

In 1991, he found himself working in New York City's flower district and living in the beautiful Connecticut countryside - his love of the natural beauty that surrounded him began to blend with his passion for creating jewellery which lead to the birth of Michael Michaud Jewelry.
