The Sugar Maple necklace offers a more delicate interpretation of the tree’s celebrated autumn display. Sugar maple leaves gradually shift from fresh green to luminous gold and copper as the season progresses, filling the landscape with layers of changing color. This annual cycle of transformation and return has long made the maple a fitting emblem of resilience, continuity and enduring bonds.

Smaller textured maple leaves fall from gently curving brown oxidized bronze stems, creating a light, softly cascading arrangement across the neckline. Green hand patination is balanced with copper leaf and 24k gold plating, giving the foliage subtle variations in tone and finish. Its refined scale retains the richness of the collection while creating an understated Sugar Maple necklace that sits beautifully at the neckline and lends itself easily to everyday wear.

About our Jewelry

Our unique jewelry is made by creating molds directly from botanical elements in a process similar to lost-wax casting. While traditional lost-wax casting begins with a hand-carved model of wax, Michael Michaud uses an actual leaf, branch or flower in place of the wax model. A mold is created around the botanical element and as it is heated the plant matter burns away and leaves behind a beautifully detailed mold of itself.

Michael Michaud

Artist Michael Michaud attended the Rochester Institute of Technology's prestigious school for American craftsmen, where he studied under designers Hans Christenson and Gary Griffin and became a master in the creation and manipulation of molds. After graduating in 1980, Michael Michaud continued to perfect his craft while working under jewelry designers in the New York City area.

In 1991, he found himself working in New York City's flower district and living in the beautiful Connecticut countryside - his love of the natural beauty that surrounded him began to blend with his passion for creating jewellery which lead to the birth of Michael Michaud Jewelry.
