The Sugar Maple earrings capture maple foliage at the moment autumn begins to transform its color. Leaves that were once green gradually develop warm shades of gold and copper, creating a rich mixture of tones across the branches. This seasonal transformation has helped make the sugar maple an enduring expression of resilience, renewal and the beauty of change.

Three textured maple leaves hang at different levels from branching brown oxidized bronze stems, creating a naturally layered drop. Green hand patination combines with copper leaf and 24k gold plating to give the foliage the varied appearance of autumn leaves. Their larger scale and tiered arrangement allow the leaves to move gently when worn, giving these Sugar Maple earrings an expressive botanical presence without feeling overly formal or statement-like.

Materials: The Sugar Maple earrings are cast in hand patinated bronze with a brown and green hand patinated finish, accented with a 24kt gold plating and copper leaf. The wires are 925 silver with a 24kt gold plating.

About our Jewelry

Our unique jewelry is made by creating molds directly from botanical elements in a process similar to lost-wax casting. While traditional lost-wax casting begins with a hand-carved model of wax, Michael Michaud uses an actual leaf, branch or flower in place of the wax model. A mold is created around the botanical element and as it is heated the plant matter burns away and leaves behind a beautifully detailed mold of itself.

Michael Michaud

Artist Michael Michaud attended the Rochester Institute of Technology's prestigious school for American craftsmen, where he studied under designers Hans Christenson and Gary Griffin and became a master in the creation and manipulation of molds. After graduating in 1980, Michael Michaud continued to perfect his craft while working under jewelry designers in the New York City area.

In 1991, he found himself working in New York City's flower district and living in the beautiful Connecticut countryside - his love of the natural beauty that surrounded him began to blend with his passion for creating jewellery which lead to the birth of Michael Michaud Jewelry.
