The Pink Magnolia brooch celebrates the generous spring blossoms of this ancient flowering tree. Magnolias often bloom before their leaves appear, covering bare branches with sculptural flowers in soft shades of pink and cream. Their arrival at the beginning of the growing season has made magnolia blossom a beautiful expression of renewal, grace and the promise of new beginnings.

A broad bronze branch sweeps horizontally across the design, carrying an abundant arrangement of magnolia flowers at different stages of opening. Warm brown patinated tones recreate the natural branch, while hand-applied enamel gives the layered petals their softly graduated pink and cream color. The spreading composition creates a striking floral focal point, bringing sculptural color and dimension to a favorite jumper, jacket or coat.

About our Jewelry

Our unique jewelry is made by creating molds directly from botanical elements in a process similar to lost-wax casting. While traditional lost-wax casting begins with a hand-carved model of wax, Michael Michaud uses an actual leaf, branch or flower in place of the wax model. A mold is created around the botanical element and as it is heated the plant matter burns away and leaves behind a beautifully detailed mold of itself.

Michael Michaud

Artist Michael Michaud attended the Rochester Institute of Technology's prestigious school for American craftsmen, where he studied under designers Hans Christenson and Gary Griffin and became a master in the creation and manipulation of molds. After graduating in 1980, Michael Michaud continued to perfect his craft while working under jewelry designers in the New York City area.

In 1991, he found himself working in New York City's flower district and living in the beautiful Connecticut countryside - his love of the natural beauty that surrounded him began to blend with his passion for creating jewellery which lead to the birth of Michael Michaud Jewelry.
